6th Annual Mid-Appalachian Bonsai Kai Exhibit

Bonsai exhibit returning to ETSU museum
JOHNSON CITY – The Mid-Appalachian Bonsai Kai will once again host the Invitational Bonsai Exhibit at the East Tennessee State University and General Shale Brick Natural History Museum and Visitor Center at the Gray Fossil Site. The exhibit will be on display Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 11-12, from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.

B-17 Flying Fortress Sentimental Journey on Exhibit

at the Tri-Cities Regional Airport, TN/VA. The most fully restored B-17 Flying Fortress SENTIMENTAL JOURNEY a World War II vintage bomber airplane will fly into Tri-Cities Regional Airport, TN/VA, offering the public an up-close and personal look at this unique piece of aviation history. The public is invited to tour this airplane–inside and out. There’s even the opportunity for some lucky individuals to actually take a flight in SENTIMENTAL JOURNEY and experience this rare aircraft first-hand. Flight opportunities are available on SENTIMENTAL JOURNEY.

A summer program for children ages 4-10 in conjunction with Mountain Messages V Children can:
- listen to stories about quilts
- make their own quilts from scraps of paper or cloth
- draw pictures of quilts

Mountain Messages V: Everything Old is New Again

Exhibit Dates: July 13-September 16, 2010

"Everything Old is New Again" is the theme of this year's competition.
Works submitted will be judged by Melinda Bula, a nationally known fabric designer and quilter and
author of Cutting Garden Quilts.
Cash prizes will be awarded during the opening reception and gallery talk on July 29th.

Tennessee Civil War Sesquicentennial Signature Event: The Coming of the War

at Bays Mountain Park & Planetarium in Kingsport. Saturday and Sunday afternoons 3 - 3:30 p.m* March through November.

Safely view the surface of the Sun through specially filtered telescopes. With our instruments it is possible to view a wide variety of eruptive disturbances on the Sun including sunspots, prominences and solar flares.

Be sure to bring warm clothes for the Nighttime Observing. Though the day may be sunny and warm, the temperature can drop after the sun goes down. Having the proper clothing will make your experience much more enjoyable.
